Tharla an t-athrú ón bpágántacht d'réir a chéile. Ceann dos na hiontais ba mhó ná na draoithe [sagairt phágánacha] agus a dtréithe: chaithfeadh go mbeidís ina bhfilí, i.e file, géineolaí. Chomh maith chuirfidís geasa ar dhaoine, cuid acu a dhéanfadh díobháil tré gheasa draíochta agus cuid acu a bhí ina naoimh agus go raibh an ceart acu daoine, nó aon rud a mhallachtú. I gcás na naomh Críostaí, is minic a chuireadar mallacht ar a naimhde, ach sa chás sin, is ar son Dé a bhíodar ag mallachtú.
