Excommunication of John FitzGerald
Progress of local Confederates and the excommunication of John FitzGerald, 12th Knight of Kerry
Tralee was taken by Confederates under Piaras Feirit?ir and Fineen Dubh McCarthy. Meanwhile, John FitzGerald, 12th Knight of Kerry, remained neutral, like his kinsmen Tom?s Sp?inneach, Knight of Glin, and Patrick FitzMaurice, Baron Kerry. For his refusal to become involved with the Confederation of Kilkenny, John was excommunicated by Rickard O`Connell, bishop of Ardfert and Aghadoe (Kerry), in 1642.
