West Kerry`s representation in Colonel Roger McElligott`s regiment in King James II`s army
McElligott`s regiment was in Chester in 1688, when they celebrated the birth of a son and heir to James II. By September 1690, they defended Cork, where McElligott was governor, against a siege by Williamite forces under John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough. The regiment included men from West Kerry`s most notable families:
