The Knight of Kerry changes sides and joins the insurrection
Spanish forces arrived in Kinsale. This new impetus for the insurrectionists was given a further boost when it was followed by a second landfall of Spanish forces in Castlehaven. By this stage, William FitzGerald, Knight of Kerry, could no longer desist from joining his co-religionists, relatives and neighbouring magnates such as the McCarthy M?r, the McCarthy Reagh, the O`Sullivan M?r, the O`Sullivan Beare, Patrick FitzMaurice, Lord Kerry, the O`Connor-Kerry and Edmund FitzGerald, Knight of Glin who had allied themselves with Red Hugh O`Donnell`s forces en route to Kinsale.
