The Blasket island of Inishvickillane (Inis Mhic Aoibhleáin) is named after Mo Chellóc son of Oíblén, in modern Irish Mocheallóg mac Aoibhleáin. Mocheallóg was one of the Corcu Duibne, and possibly of royal stock. Many early saints were given land by their royal relatives to build churches and monasteries, where children were educated and the sick cared for. Mocheallóg is also associated with early church sites at Ballinrannig and Caherquin, while his main monastic foundation was at Inch or Inis Labrainne. He is the patron saint of Áes Irrais Tuaiscirt, the southern side of the Dingle peninsula. He was venerated as a saint as early as the 7th century in this area, suggesting a date of around 550 for his life.
